The Tusker Nexters Kisumu auditions kicked off today with a flurry of locals competing for a chance to represent the region at the national finals later in May 2022.
The Tusker Nexters talent search platform is part of Tusker 100-year anniversary campaign, which aims to bring out the next generation of Kenyan talent in music and sports. It was also an introduction of the broader Kenyan audience to eSports, or electronic sports, which is globally considered as the next frontier of virtual sport.
The two-day event is the second leg in a five part audition series that will see the brand visit five regions around the country to unearth the next big Kenyan talent.
The event that kicked off last week with auditions in the Meru has seen several standout performances already with many more expected this coming weekend from the Kisumu crowd. The competition also boasts an impressive celebrity panel of judges, including popular names in Kenyan music: Arrow Boy, Elisha Toto, Femi One, as well as Kisumu-based acts Apesi, Khalid and Claster.
Tusker brand Manager, Catherine Twesigye, was delighted at the turnout in Kisumu. " “We are excited at the sheer number of people that have turned out here in Kisumu, showcasing the fantastic talent that the Lake region has to offer. As Tusker, we are excited to be providing platforms for young Kenyan talents to shine. Through the Tusker Nexters countrywide talent search, we hope that this is the catalyst for these talented and gifted individuals to get the chance to show Kenya what they can do."
Saturday saw the Tusker Nexters competition culminate in an after party with the Judges performing for the revellers in attendance. Sunday, 20th March will be the day for regional finalists to take the stage, where their performances will be adjudicated and the large number whittled down to get a final group, which will travel to Nairobi for national finals, come May.
Following the Lake region, the Tusker Nexters talent search continues on 26th March, 2022, at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, with talented people from the capital getting their chance to showcase their talent in music and eSports.
