Last weekend Tusker Lager brought the party back to the annual Safari sevens rugby tournament, held at the RFUEA grounds in Nairobi. With the Safari sevens having endured tough times with reducing fan numbers in recent years, Tusker took up the tournament’s title sponsorship rights as part of the brand’s 115 Million investment in the sport of rugby. As a result of the sponsorship, the 2019 Tusker Safari sevens attracted a record number of top teams from around the world, including the 2017/18 HSBC World Series champions, South Africa, Spain, the Russia Academy which was coached by sevens legend Waisele Serevi, defending Champions Samurai, Seventise Rugby of France among others.
Tusker Lager also ensured that fans enjoyed the best of experience over the two days, with great offers on drinks as well as fun activities at the Tusker Village including pool table, foosball and E-sports. Over the two days, the Tusker Safari sevens hosted more than 6,000 fans who witnessed the Kenya Morans beating South Africa, 19-14 to lift the 2019 title. Fans were treated to world class entertainment from the likes of Nyashinski, Nameless, Khaligraph Jones, Boondocks gang, Ochungulo Family, DJ Bash, DJ Exclusive, among others. True to the brand’s character, Tusker was also on hand to celebrate with the tournament’s exceptional performances, including the tournament’s MVP, Siviwe Soyizwapi of South Africa and winners, Kenya Morans.
The Tusker Safari Sevens brings an end to the 2019 local sevens calendar that has seen the brand traverse the country from Kisumu, Nakuru, Nairobi to Mombasa, through the Tusker Na Rugby Campaign.
Attention now shifts to the fifteens season, with the Kenya Cup set to kick off on the 26th of October 2019.
